Idaho law enforcement officers testified against immigration enforcement bills before the Legislature. We want to know if Idaho taxpayers paid for it. Nine public records requests. Four agencies still stonewalling. The record is being built.
During the 2026 Idaho legislative session, law enforcement officials from across the state showed up in Boise to testify against bills that would have required Idaho agencies to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.
The question is simple: Were Idaho taxpayers paying for that? When a police chief drives 150 miles to the Capitol on a Tuesday to testify against a bill, is he on the clock? Did his department pay for fuel, a hotel, meals? Did a taxpayer-funded salary cover those hours?
We filed public records requests with every agency whose officials we could confirm appeared in person. Some cooperated. Some stonewalled. Two are disputing fees. One has not responded to a single contact.
The full investigation — with every document, every cost figure, and every non-response on the record — is coming soon.
Four agencies are still open. Two are disputing fees. One has gone completely dark. We'll publish everything when the record is complete — every document, every cost, every non-response. No exceptions.
